The Ecopod: A Green Solution For The Modern World
Shipping container houses and domiciles are the newest craze to hit the eco-friendly circuit, and they appear to be here to stay.
Shipping container modular homes can be built simply and assembled quickly, and for the do-it-yourself crowd there are even storage container home plans available on the market that can be followed for a hands-on home creation experience.
Perhaps one example of just how mainstream these sort of container house plans and lodging has become though is the Ecopod.
The Ecopod, as the name might suggest, is made from a single shipping container and it’s designed to be as eco-friendly and environmentally sound as an off the grid housing unit can be.
The Ecopod folds up for easy transport on truck, helicopter or ship, and once it’s placed it folds out into a comfortable unit that feels bigger than traditional shipping container dimensions.
The floors are made from recycled tires, and the walls are augmented with recycled and reclaimed wood. The glass is doubled paned, meant to help prevent a transfer of energy and a loss of comfort for those inside.
From bottom to top the goal of the Ecopod is to recycle as many different trashes as possible and to turn them into something ecologically friendly and sustainable.
Speaking of sustainable, the Ecopod does come with a solar panel. Even if you’re not watching television or logging onto your laptop, you’ll need the power for the electric winch that helps open and close the heavy doors for the pod. It is made out of a shipping container, after all.
The Ecopod is meant to stand up to anything that nature has to offer, while at the same time making sure that it doesn’t harm the environment. Whether you want to use the Ecopod as a stand alone feature, like a lodge or nature cabin might be used for, or if you want to make it part of a larger unit you can.
The designers, going with the natural flow of how cargo containers work, realized that they’re simple, efficient, and when needs be they can be stacked together.
